Proud to be the one who proposed the longest description! (for the time being)

Good stuff. I like the bit about it being a specific identifiable point, as opposed to corruption, which is in theory over a longer time frame.

@fuckriri1234 the gallery you linked would not be considered mind break until the very end on page 24. By page 6 it is simply rape as she is still resistant and unwilling, and up until page 23 she is still saying 'no! stop this!' indicating she is not compliant. Then on page 24 she says she is in bliss and is now smiling, and that is the point of the story that would be considered mind break as that is the point that shows she has gone from resistant to compliant. I think "becoming compliant with/desirous of a situation they previously resisted" is the perfect descriptor for this tag.

coming back after @akashako mentioned it but @Gutaunamanya I dont think your last comment(s) is correct. Mind break isnt simply resisting -> begging, it's any form of abrupt transition (including the examples u gave) by page 6 of this gallery, the girl is mind broken, but she doesnt begin begging for cock or wtvr (tw loli) while it is true that this example matches your current description, "losing all sense of self and becoming compliant with or desirous of a situation they previously resisted," it also matches your "complete personality shift" description. hence why I removed the redundant former part

@fuckriri1234 Also, I use the word "sensation" here as it's broader then "stimulation" which doesn't include things like potion/magic.

@fuckriri1234 I don't think removing all of these "losing all sense of self and becoming compliant with or desirous of a situation they previously resisted" is good. Because "complete personality shift" can mean just about anything e.g. a woman was a nymphomaniac turns into saint or a raper redeems his way of living also fall under this. But mind break specifically means "resistent → submissive/sex-crazed". However, you still have a good point about my description beating too long, although I don't think removing all that part is the right idea.

@akashako idt that's an accurate description tbh @gataunamanya_apa I think you can remove the middle clause after the comma: "An identifiable breaking point in a story at which a character undergoes a complete personality shift [...] Commonly triggered by [...] abuse, coercion, or intense [stimulation], though the underlying cause can vary." to be clear, i think your description was great, it's just a bit long. i think this conveys it just as much while keeping it brief

Guys, there is the "moral degeneration" tag. "mind break" is about some actual breaking point in the story (usually during sex). "corruption" looks to be about some body, as well as mind, modifications/alterations, rather than just changing attitude, behavior, state of mind. Some turning into a demon, or a monster shit, viruses and parasites.

@fuckriri123 Eh, I guess it can be explained without mentioning torture/rape/abuse explicity but it is really not that far off from what those convey, like you can make the argument that these are used when one party does horrible things to the receiving person, on that aspect you might argue that something else is causing distress, maybe a natural disaster or something right? Albeit those are rare cases, I am fine with changing it from strictly "tortured/raped/abused" but we definetly need to mention the part where we say "Commonly caused by excessive abuse/torture/rape" because that is what happens most of the time if not all. I think the part you did not understand was that abuse can be VERY broad. To explain it better, I'll get your previous example of cheating: See, cheating is abuse because you are breaking the unspoken faith of being loyal to one another, you—and the other party you are with, holds. That is why it is called "cheating", you are abusing the faith between you two.

I agree with everyone here, I didn't really give much thought into this description. I just put it out in a whim and didn't realize how it would overlap with other genres.

@fuckriri123 Yes, three of them being different was established. On the topic of mind break, the example you have given can also be interpreted as soft torture/abuse, these things does not need to be intentional towards the person, it has the same effect on them regardless, so realization or disillusionment doesn't really change anything, you should understand the core idea behind them is the same. It is something unpleasant, therefore resisted in some way shape or form, as an example the person might say "no.. this can't be real!", at that point they are denying the reality and clinging onto delusions, therefore resisting. Or it can be just a simple scream too, honestly, it does not matter, as long as there is internal conflict.

@Jor25 I guess that makes it clearer. I'll separate it by 'self inflicted' and 'external sourced'.

Part 2: Another way to look at it could be that moral degeneration is painting over a character’s core personality, while mind break and corruption are actively and passively damaging (or otherwise altering) that core personality, respectively.
Jor25

@AHentaiPerson2 If it helps, here’s what I consider to be the difference between moral degeneration and corruption: moral degeneration doesn’t change the underlying person, while corruption and mind break DO. I see mind break and corruption as changing the core of someone’s personality, while someone who has undergone moral degeneration is still the same person at their core. Take the example you gave earlier, of the husband and wife. Even though at the end of things, the wife is interested in more degenerate activities, she still retains her dignity, self respect, and loyalty to her husband. I’d describe that as moral degeneration. She didn’t become so desperate for cock that she is willing to sacrifice her public appearance, or have sex with anyone to sate her immediate desires. If that sort of change happened, I’d consider it to be corruption or mind break, depending on how it came about.
AHentaiPerson2
AHentaiPerson2
@Jor25 Hmmm.. I guess you'd be right. But now I need to sit and think if corruption and moral degeneration are really separate from one and other, or if we should merge them. We could go by your description of it being more intense and malicious version of moral degeneration, but that doesn't really sit well with me since I can also see moral degeneration being used as intense and malicious change for the individual.. But corruption being a stronger word I think I am kinda fine with it being the more intense version of it? Maybe not.. I can't think of anything else other than the intensity of it being the dividing factor, so that's why I am a little conflicted.
Jor25
Jor25
@AHentaiPerson2 Hmm. The impression that I have of corruption is something that’s rather more… malicious than the example you gave in the -2- post. Personally, I think I’d classify that under the “Moral degeneration” tag instead of corruption, adding another circle to this Venn diagram of overlapping tags.
AHentaiPerson2
AHentaiPerson2
@Jor25 Whoa, that is cool, the more you know. And yeah, as you guessed I also think there is a sizeably big overlap between the two tags, my previous proposition of using the corruption tag instead of the mindbreak tag for consensual circumstances stem from that. And I am pretty sure I also agree with your take of mindbreak having a moment of "giving in", and that is exactly why I can't imagine it being anything other than non-consensual. I guess you could make the argument that it could be half consensual, an example would be that the individual agreed to have sex but did not agree to any anal stuff, and after experiencing anal they are 'mind broken' to it. But for me, I can't think of any completely consensual scenario for mind-break, while I can imagine that with corruption. Now for the corruption without mindbreak I actually disagree, I don't think corrupted individual necessarily needs to have a complete transformation to a totally different person like it is often portrayed.
AHentaiPerson2
AHentaiPerson2
-2- They could become very perverted sexually while being able to keep their public appearances. As an example I could give: a, both virgin, vanilla couple experiencing intimacy for the first time. Then the female, who never thought much of sex, desires more and more sexually degenerate acts as they keep having intimacy. But in the end she is able to keep her public appearances.

@AHentaiPerson2 That made me curious, so I went poking around, and apparently the words ‘corrupt’ and ‘corruption’ developed from a Latin word that meant “to destroy/spoil/putrefy”, which is probably why the word gives me the slowburn vibes you mentioned. HOWEVER. Going even further back, all the way to Proto-Indo-European, the root of the word, “*runp-“, is believed to have meant ‘to break’. Words are fun! (https://www.etymonline.com/word/corrupt#etymonline_v_19112) Either way, I don’t think we would disagree with the idea that there’s a noticeable degree in overlap between mind break and corruption. Personally, I see it as mind break if there’s a distinct moment where the victim gives in, which may or may not have corruption leading up to that moment, and as corruption without mind break if the victim gets Ship of Theseus’d or slippery slope’d, ending up completely different than they were at the start without that singular inflection point.
AHentaiPerson2
AHentaiPerson2
@Jor25 It's fine that you'd classify it that way, I am not going to tell you what to do, but corruption isn't necessarily a slowburn, it can be, but so can mindbreak. The pattern you got from point of mindbreak being "sharp" is not necessarily from it occuring in an instant, but rather from the unwilling/resisting individual snapping to comply with or desire the situation, wether that be instantaneous or a gradual thing. As for corruption, even though it is mostly used as a gradual process for narrative purposes, there exist works which do it instantaneously, some magical settings are examples for this.
Jor25
Jor25
@AHentaiPerson2 For what it’s worth, I see corruption as taking place gradually, over an extended period of time. Even if they end up in the same place, mind break would involve a sudden, sharp divide with an identifiable moment when they give in, while corruption would be a more gradual erosion.
AHentaiPerson2
AHentaiPerson2
I disagree. I mean I get where you guys are coming from, but we do have the corruption tag, and doesn't that fit consensual circumstances? If mind is willing, I wouldn't say there is anything to break, maybe just to corrupt. In my opinion, there should be a certain amount of solid/firm resistance for it to be mind break.

I agree with everyone else. It can also be where they are not really into it a first but slowly give into it over time and become submissive or even brainwashed. I see it a lot of doujins that have the “deal with the devil/faustian bargain” type trope or story narrative.

I agree with the other comments here. Should be changed to something along the lines of; "A Character is pushed beyond their breaking point, causing either temporary or permanent mental impairment."

The one thing I'd change is that I'd maybe change it from "tortured/raped/abused" to something along the lines of "stimulated, either consensually or non-consensually, to the point where..." and continue through there.

Eh, it doesn't technically have to be non-con, just "too much pleasure/sensation to handle". Granted most stories with the tag are also rape stories, but it's not required.
